My Brother Rabbit

Release date: September 21, 2018

A colorful world of make-believe

My Brother Rabbit was a game published by Artifex Mundi, the same developer that brought you other games such as Enigmatis and Nightmares from the Deep. It tells the story of a family who discovers that their daughter has developed a mysterious illness and they do everything within their power to help her recover. Through the power of imagination, the young girl’s older brother tells the story of a rabbit that sets off on an adventure to help his ailing flower friend feel better. Together, they travel to many places, gathering items that will aid them along the way, and solving puzzles that allow them to access different points in their journey. What will become of the dear, little flower and her rabbit friend? There’s only one way to find out!

My Brother Rabbit is best described as a mix of point-and-click and hidden object game. Within each area there are items that the player must collect in order to help the rabbit and his flower friend progress to the next stage in their journey. These items can include anything from balloons and ice cream, to crystals and bugs! Each stage is designed with vibrant colors that make up a beautiful, interactive environment, and the soundtrack creates the perfect ambiance for every location – it’s also available on YouTube should you wish to give it a listen! While it’s not the typical gameplay we’re used to, we recommend giving it a try, nonetheless. We’re willing to bet that you’ll be just as pleasantly surprised as we were with this delightful gem of a game.

Steamworld Dig

Release date: August 8, 2013 (Nintendo 3DS)

A robot society mixed with western-themed steampunk elements are the very foundation that makes up this epic game called Steamworld Dig. Originally available for the Nintendo 3DS system, it has also been released for the Nintendo Switch. Steamworld Dig begins with a steam-driven robot named Rusty arriving at the town to investigate the mine left to him by his uncle. However, upon his arrival, he finds his uncle dead and decides to stay and uncover the secrets that lurk below. While mining for minerals and forging the path down into the depths of the mine, he discovers the remains of a human civilization and an even more advanced, ancient civilization below that, one filled with secrets and perhaps a more sinister purpose.

Gameplay consists of the player guiding Rusty through the mine by digging with various tools, such as a pickaxe and drill, and using various other accessories, like ladders, lamps, and eventually, warp pads to make ascending and descending that much easier. There are 3 areas to explore within the game, each with their own unique environment, gems to find, and enemies to fight, as well as secret caves where the player can upgrade their equipment and abilities. The gameplay, while somewhat repetitive in nature, is rather enjoyable as there’s always the wonder of what’s going to come next. Alongside the storyline, there’s plenty to explore within the game and, as Rusty’s equipment is upgraded along the way, it’s definitely worth revisiting previously scouted areas. You never know what you’ve missed in the twists and turns of the mine.
